An unlikely success

I find myself in a peculiar situation. I wrote a movie last year as a labor of love. I had no reason to believe it would ever be made but 2 months after I put the finishing touches on the script we rolled cameras and my first film was made.

A group of friends that really believed in the script came together to help finance and produce it. We did all of this with a small group of very talented people who richly believed in the project. Once again we had no reason to expect that this would go anywhere.

My producer Rafe promised me that we were going to submit the movie to the Cannes International Film Festival when we were done. I thought it was a long shot, but what's the worst case scenario? They say no? So we submitted it.

And then it happened...

They accepted my movie in the "Short Film Corner". So now I am off to the biggest film festival in the world and I have to figure out how to get there. Financing the film was hard enough in this economy, but 10 days in France. That may be more than we can swing. But one way or another I'm going. I owe that to all the people who believed in this project enough to make it happen. I owe it to myself to follow my dream as far as it will take me.

So a half serious idea that was thrown out to finance this trip: Rather than find an investor with a few grand, why not try to find 6,000 people who would spend $1 to support the arts? Who knows, maybe there are enough of you out there that believe in us too, or believe that it's worth $1 to give us a shot.

We are calling on all of our friends, family, colleagues, acquaintances, strangers, peers, pets, and anyone or anything else that has $1 to spare to support the artists, support a long shot that just keeps working out, or to help a total stranger's dream come true. What's the worst case scenario? You're out a dollar?
